snow, you are an ugly charmless devil-precipitation

So, it snowed today. It would have been a great day to exercise my “working from home” rights, but I didn’t think it was going to be too bad. When I went out this morning, I even went out wearing regular shoes instead of boots because apparently I never learn. Then as I cleaned off my car my shoes kept filling with snow, and then they actually got stuck in the snow on more than one occasion, causing me to step into five inches of snow in just my sock. I’m not sure my of my precise IQ, but I think it’s clear that I’m a genius. Then as I was clearing off the car I saw the most beautiful sight that a person clearing off her car can see:

The plow!! Clearing out the driveway for the second time this morning. There is really not enough poetry written about snow plows.

Anyway! Then I drove to work so very very slowly. I even had to turn off Lady Gaga because I was afraid she might cause me to inadvertently drive too quickly (too quickly = over 17 miles per hour). It was a scary, slippery drive. I can be prone to macabre thoughts and during this drive to work I envisioned about 14 different ways I could meet my demise. These are the only days I ever wish I drove a really big truck, or some sort of armored vehicle. But I eventually made it. It took my poor husband two and a half hours to get to work which makes me want to give him cocoa and a head rub.

Also, I’m not naming names, but I have no patience for girls people who never pick up a shovel.

  1. Wow, you need a 4×4. I got to work in the same amount of time as normal. Drove back home in about 10 minute longer because I had to get off the highway and take back roads to avoid traffic, pick up E, bring her to work, and then get back to work for a meeting. Now that that car is paid off you should get yourself a nice SUV, then you’ll have room for a puppy too!

  2. Today it was raining horizontally when I left my house.

By the time I had crossed one street, the rain was turning into slush on contact with the ground.

When I crossed the second street, big snowflakes swirled around the T stop.

When I got to work, there was an inch and a half of slush, punctuated with footprints, on the sidewalks. Those will freeze lumpily and be evil later this evening.

Yay for extra pairs of shoes stashed in my office.
Yay for my awesome boyfriend who buys me badass winterboots!
